Tea Ware
Tea ware is an important part of my ceramic practice, particularly the forms and traditions associated with Japanese tea ceremony. From chawan used in preparing matcha to functional teapots with sculptural elements, these pieces explore the relationship between form, function, and the expressive surfaces created through wood firing.
Chawan + Tea Ceremony
Chawan, or matcha bowls, and other vessels associated with Japanese tea ceremony. These pieces emphasize the relationship between the hand, the vessel, and the preparation of tea, with forms and surfaces intended to be experienced through touch as well as sight.
Teapots
Functional teapots that explore the relationship between utility and sculptural expression. Handles, spouts, lids, and bodies offer opportunities to experiment with form and proportion, while wood firing creates surfaces that emphasize the individuality of each piece.
